"CSI demands that Ajay Chautala should resign from the post of President of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). The conviction Mr. Chautala of corruption charges by a CBI Court in Delhi leaves no scope for him continue to head TTFI," the statement issued by the organisation said.
INLD MLA Chautala, who currently is in judicial custody, will be sentenced along with his father and 53 others on January 22 for their involvement in the illegal recruitment of teachers in Harayana in the year 2000.
Veteran table tennis player Khasim Ali has also called for Chautala's resignation on moral grounds. Having convicted by the court Chautala has no option but to quit from the post, he said.
CSI, a movement for corruption-free sports in the country, has also decided to take up the matter with Sports Ministry and International Table Tennis Federation.
"It is time for the former Table Tennis players to come forward to mobilise public opinion to make the President of TTFI quit. They also need to come forward to run their affairs instead of leaving it to corrupt politicians like Ajay Chautala," acting President of CSI Ashwini Nachappa said.
