"Indefinite curfew has been imposed in Jawad and neighbouring Khor village," the district superintendent of police Rudolf Alvares told PTI.
About a dozen shops and over 15 vehicles were set on fire during the violence which started during a religious procession, sub-divisional officer of police Dr Indrajeet Bakarwal said.
As many as 15 persons were injured in stone-pelting, forcing the administration to impose curfew at around 3 pm to control the situation.
Additional forces were deployed in the area. The situation was tense but under control, Alvares said.
