Cuttack city during the 12-hour bandh call given by the Congress against continuous neglect meted out to the city by the ruling BJD.
More than 200 Congress workers, including party's city president Md Moqim and PCC vice president Suresh Mohapatra were taken into preventive custody for picketing at different places in the city.
The opposition Congress had given the bandh call raising 12 issues affecting the city, including poor road conditions and lack of basic civic amenities.
The city police had made elaborate security arrangements to ensure that the dawn-to-dusk bandh passed off peacefully without any major law and order situations.
Congress activists picketed for a brief period at the Railway Station with train services affected for over two hours in the morning.
Briefing reporters, Moqim claimed the bandh was a success and thanked the people for their support and cooperation.
PCC vice president Suresh Mohapatra said the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court had summoned some party leaders to enquire about the purpose of the bandh call.
