Over 29,500 complaints of alleged corruption were received by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) last year, the highest in past three years, government said today.
As many as 29,559 complaints, including 814 whistle blowers' complaints, were received by the CVC in 2012, as against 17,830 and 16,687 in 2011 and 2010 respectively, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, V Narayanasamy said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
The complaints are scrutinised and wherever specific and verifiable allegations involving vigilance angle or corruption are noticed, they are forwarded to appropriate agencies like Chief Vigilance Officer of the organisation concerned or CBI to conduct probe into the matter and report to the Commission, he said.
"The Commission after careful consideration of all factors and with a view to ensure promptness in the matters involving vigilance administration, has prescribed a period of three months for completing investigations into a complaint and sending the report to the Commission," Narayanasamy said.
