The prime accused, along with his two associates, involved in the series of recent dacoities in the city was arrested today, a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
The mastermind Rahim Ali (21) alias Rehan aka Lalchand was arrested along with his wife Dipti Biswas alias Riya (20) and another Ali Hussain (20) alias Sanu at around 3.35 PM today when the trio was trying to flee the city, Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.
"All the three have been arrested today at around 3.35PM in the subway in front of Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital (NRS) when they were trying to flee to Bangaon via Sealdah train route," Ghosh said.
One 7mm pistol with live cartridge, one gold neck chain and cash of around Rs 10,000 were seized from the trio after their arrest, police sources said.
Riya, a resident of Bangaon, and Lalchand were staying at a rented place on DC Road in Tangra area for the last couple of months. Sanu was also staying in the same locality, police said.
Last week, four persons of the same gang, including Bangladeshi national Mohammed Jiah Sheikh and woman band organiser Moonmoon Majumdar, were arrested from Tiljala area for their involvement in the dacoities in Jadavpur, Regent Park and Haridevpur areas.
Today's arrests were made after getting tip-off from the four during their interrogation, police said.
Police had seized Moonmoon's four-wheeler, which was used in the crimes and recovered some looted items from them.
Moonmoon, attached with different bars on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass as band organiser, was living with Sheikh at a Tiljala flat, from where they were arrested.
