Dantewada, Jashpur districts selected for Nat Literacy Award

Chhattisgarh's Naxal-affected Dantewada and Jashpur districts have been selected for National Literacy Award 2017.
"This award is an indicator of growing awareness regarding literacy and education in the tribal-dominated regions of the state," Chief Minister Raman Singh said in statement.
Temri gram panchayat in Raipur district has also been shortlisted for the national literacy award under another category.
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu will present the awards on the occasion of international literacy day on September 8 in a ceremony to be held in New Delhi, an official here said today.
Over 78,000 people out of 84, 208 people surveyed for literacy in the Maoist-violence hit Dantewada were found to be literate under Sakshar Bharat Abhiyan, he said.

The Dantewada district jail has also achieved cent percent literacy among its inmates. As many as 732 prisoners of this jail have become completely literate, after getting associated with the literacy mission, he added.

Moreover, the local administration had also conducted literacy campaign for industrial labourers in Kirandul iron ore mine area of the district where digital literacy is also being promoted, he said.
Similarly in Jashpur, under Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme, neo-literates were associated with skill development programmes so as to make them employable while at the same time digital literacy is also being promoted, the officer said.

The national literacy award is given to the selected three states, three districts and three gram panchayats under different categories.
