The West Bengal government today transferred an SDPO-ranked police officer against the backdrop of a breach in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's security during a public meeting in North Dinajpur district.
According to a notification issued by the state home and hill affairs department, SDPO of Islampore Dr Kunwar Bhushan Singh was made the Additional Superintendent of Police (operation) of Jhargram district.
The IPS officer's new posting is considered less significant.
The earlier notification of promoting the IPS officer as the additional SP of North Dinajpur district was nullified by today's order.
Two teenage girls had breached the chief minister's security and had climbed the podium where Banerjee, who has Z+ security, was addressing a public meeting at Hemtabad last week.
According to home department officials, an officer in the rank of deputy superintendent of police and an inspector who were in charge of the security at the D-zone set up for Z-category VIPs in front of the dais were showcaused.
Two constables of the district police were also taken off duty in connection with the security breach.
