Two other acid-attack victims had earlier been employed in the Commission.
"Aasiya's husband had thrown acid on her 22 years back when she was only 15-years-old. Aasiya's child was taken away by her in-laws and her mother had passed away. Her father, who also passed away a few years back, took care of all the expenses for her treatment.
"Until recently, she was the sole earner in her family and supported her four sisters and two brothers with a mere income of Rs 3000-4000. Aasiya now feels empowered and confident after joining the commission," said a DCW statement.
In this process, Renu, who is visually-impaired and an acid attack survivor, requested for mobility and skills training. The Commission then approached an NGO, National Association for Blind Women for the same. The NGO has agreed to impart art, craft, computers and mobility training to the survivor free of cost. The Commission is also organising a pick-and-drop facility for her.
According to reported data, there are four visually- impaired acid attack victims in Delhi and DCW wants to provide training to all four of them, the statement said.
