DDCA convinces Yashpal as he agrees to stay on as chairman

Barely a week after he had tendered his resignation from the post of chairman of DDCA's senior selection committee, former Test batsman Yashpal Sharma was today reinstated as the head of the panel only 10 ahead of Delhi's opening Ranji Trophy game against Saurashtra.
"Yes, Yashpal is back as the chairman of the senior selection panel. He had some issues but I believe all those will be sorted out. He will be resuming charge from tomorrow," DDCA president Sneh Bansal told PTI today.
A week back, Yashpal had tendered his resignation citing his inability to continue. While some attributed it to his media contracts during the upcoming India versus Australia series which would have affected his work as Delhi selector. DDCA's selection committee is not under association's payrolls as it is a voluntary job.

Another section said that he was unhappy as there was interference in his work which resulted in Delhi's pre quarter-final exit in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Delhi also lost two matches in the north zone leg with one against Jammu and Kashmir.
Bansal also said that Yashpal, member of India's 1983 World Cup winning squad, had a meeting with the senior DDCA officials yesterday after which things were amicably settled.
"Yesterday, Yashpal met me along with sports secretary Sunil Dev and vice-president Chetan Chowhan. After the meeting, every issue has been sorted," Bansal stated.

Meanwhile, Delhi Ranji team's preparation will begin at the Feroz Shah Kotla tomorrow.

There is a possibility that senior pacer Ashish Nehra may be rested in the first game. Nehra himself has given indication that he wants pick and choose while playing four-day matches.
Delhi team management will also be keeping a close eye on U-19 captain Himmat Singh, who has been making a lot of runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy and there is a possibility that coach Vijay Dahiya might just ask the selectors to induct the talented batsman into the senior squad.
