Defence Ministry refuses to give info on RTI query

Citing confidentiality and security reasons, the Defence Ministry has refused to divulge details about the measures taken by India along its border to prevent Chinese incursions.
In response to an RTI query on what infrastructure the Indian side is building to combat Chinese incursions, the Ministry refused to give the information, saying it is classified.
As per the RTI reply, Airforce Headquarters said, "The information sought under the RTI is highly classified which, if revealed publicly, could pose a threat to the security of the nation. We are not compelled to provide the information under clause 8(a) of the RTI Act, 2005."

The Border Roads Development Board said in the reply, "We are not compelled to reveal the information. We can also deny information on matters related to corruption, human rights violations and certain other issues."
The RTI query also sought to know the locations of air facilities at the border.
Chinese troops attempted to violate the International Border at Chumar area in north east of Leh on July 20 but were forced back by Indian troops, just three months after the 21-day stand-off between the armies of the two countries in Ladakh.
