Cable TV subscribers in the capital should submit consumer application forms indicating their channels of preference as broadcasting regulator TRAI is planning to deactivate signals of those who do not fulfil this requirement by June 25.
Senior officials of the regulatory authority today said that though set top boxes (STBs) had been installed all over the city during the first phase of the digitisation drive, the maintenance of a subscriber management system (SMS) was not effectively implemented.
TRAI officials said that one of the reasons for the incomplete implementation of the SMS was that only 20 per cent of people in Delhi had fulfilled the mandatory requirement of filling a consumer application form.
"The authority has reviewed the status in this regard and has observed that there is still substantial pendency with respect to the availability of complete consumer details with the cable operators/multi system operators (MSO)," TRAI said in a statement released here.
"The authority has decided to give a final opportunity to the cable TV subscribers of DAS to submit their duly filled in consumer application forms, indicating the choice of channels and services, latest by 25th June 2013," the statement said.
The regulatory body said that cable TV services of those subscribers would be deactivated whose form complete in all respects is not incorporated in the subscriber management system of the MSO. Officials said that consumers could utilise the helplines of the MSOs.
Explaining the decision senior officials said that SMS is to have the complete details of the consumer including the choice of channels and the full benefits of digitisation would not be experienced unless SMS is in place.
