A Delhi BJP delegation today met President Pranab Mukjerjee and requested him to ensure proper action with regard to a recent advertisement by Delhi government on the Jat stir in Haryana casting "political aspersions" on the Centre and the government of the neighbouring state.
The delegation, led by Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, requested the President to seek reports from Lt Governor and Home Ministry on the advertisement and issue precedent orders for recovery of its cost from the chief minister of Delhi, if it was found violative of rule book, party spokesperson Praveen Kapoor said.
"The country has never witnessed any state government issuing advertisements castigating another state government for its internal matter and hence this is a fit case for passing a stricture against Delhi government," a memorandum submitted to the President said.
"This must be one the rarest of rare cases of a Union Territory/State Government casting political aspersions on another state government and Centre. The advertisement is nothing short of a political statement on the affairs of another state," it said.
In a full-page advertisement in major dailies on March 10, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had slammed Haryana government for its "inaction" in checking violence during the Jat stir in the state and also took a dig at the Centre by likening it to "Dhirtrashtra".
A member of the delegation and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said that the party MLAs will raise the issue in the assembly.
The possibility of taking this matter before the court of law will also be explored, he added.
