Delhi government will construct an RCC wall along the Yamuna river at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore to safeguard inhabitants and shopkeepers of Tibetan market in East Delhi
Irrigation and Flood Control Minister A K Walia today said construction of the 100-meter wall on the right bank of Yamuna on Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Ring Road) between Boat Club and Kudesia Ghat will prevent flooding of the area.
The Tibetan market was flooded when the water level had gone up significantly last month.
The wall to be constructed with raft slab foundation will protect inhabitants who face inconvenience due to heavy rainfall and flooding, he said.
Walia, who is also the chairman of Flood Control Board, is hopeful that construction of the wall will avoid huge losses to inhabitants and shopkeepers in the area.
"The project would be completed within a period of 15 months after requisite sanctions," he said at a meeting of the Flood Control Board here.
Additionally, five other schemes with estimated cost of Rs 18.91 crores were also cleared by the Board today.
