Government wants to liberalise the marketing of commodities like grass, fodder and Khoya or Mawa in Delhi.
According to Delhi government officials, the two marketing committees -- Delhi Fodder Marketing Committee, Tikri Kalan (Mangolpuri) and Khoya Mawa Marketing Committee, Baghdiwar by which the marketing of these items are being regulated under the DAPM (Regulation) Act, 1998 are running on loss.
"These two marketing committees are running on loss and is under debt from other marketing committees for a long time with no scope of their revival due to urbanization of Delhi and decreasing number of animals and animal husbandry activities in Delhi.
"Only sizable chunk of land remains for cultivation. Agricultural produce, of which fodder is negligible, so interest of agriculturists in production or sale of fodder has limited significance," said a Delhi government official.
Dairies which are operating in some concentration prefer to go for bulk purchase from producing areas adjoining Delhi, so arrival of fodder in Delhi at some yard is insignificant.
Moreover as of now, there is no yard for fodder market or for Khoya or mawa market, hence Government has proposed to de-regulate these products at this stage.
Government issued a notification in this regard yesterday and has invited objections and suggestions to this proposal within 45 days from the date of issue of this notification.
