A Delhi Jal Board staffer was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe from a man for settling a challan, police said Friday.

A complaint was filed by the man with the Anti-Corruption Branch that Reader Rajender Gautam, 52, of Special Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi Jal Board at Lajpat Nagar, was demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 for settling a challan, said a senior police officer.

Subsequently, a trap was laid and the accused, Gautam, was caught accepting the bribe amount, a senior police officer said.

During investigation, it was found that he had demanded Rs 5,000 from the complainant but wanted to settle the challan for a lesser amount, he said.

Gautam accepted Rs 5,000 but the challan receipt was issued for Rs 1,000, the officer added. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, he said.
