A Delhi Police constable was today suspended for allegedly denying to pay for food at an eatery in east Delhi and roughing up its owner, police said.
Constable Aakash Singh (32), posted at Gandhi nagar police station, went to a road side restaurant namely Jain Dhabba at Jheel Chowk area near Geeta Colony at around 11:30 last night.
"The restaurant owner identified as Sunil Jain, who made a PCR call, has alleged that Singh used to frequently visit his eatery and never paid for his food. Yesterday, he finally decided to demand money from him and had sent his waiter with a bill," said a senior police official.
On being asked to pay, Singh allegedly got infuriated and roughed up Jain and threatened to shoot him with his service revolver.
Following a PCR call, a police team reached the spot and senior officials were informed about the incident.
Singh was subjected to medical examination which revealed that he was not in an inebriated state when the incident took place.
The constable was called at Gandhi Nagar Police Station in the morning and was suspended.
"We have initiated an investigation by the public grievance cell and the constable will remain suspended pending investigation. Further disciplinary action will be taken if he is found guilty," said a senior police official.
