Delhi Police created over 4,000 new posts: govt

Delhi Police has created over 4,000 additional posts for separation of crime investigation from law and order to improve the quality of probe in criminal cases, the government said today.
In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, this information was shared by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir.
Ahir said that as many as 4,227 additional posts have been created for separation of crime investigation from law and order in order to ensure that maximum number of cases can be chargesheeted.
A Legal Cell, headed by a DCP-rank officer, has also been set up to monitor the progress of cases and to analyse the orders passed by various courts on a day-to-day basis, he said.
The minister was also asked about the number of cases of crime against women that have been chargesheeted in the last four years.
In reply, he stated that out of the 30,212 cases of crimes against women, chargsheets have been filed in 19,895 cases.
Out of 19,895 chargesheeted cases, 1,204 have been decided by trial courts and in 282 cases, the accused have been convicted.
