Yesterday, police had received inputs about terrorists allegedly trying to sneak into the national capital from Uttar Pradesh along with explosives and there was special picket checking, said a senior police officer.
"We had received inputs that three vehicles full of explosives are expected to reach Delhi through Ghaziabad. In view of these inputs, there was a special picket checking and we recovered Rs 1,25,30,000," said a senior police officer.
The team recovered nearly Rs 50 lakh from two persons Jasmeet Singh (24) and his driver Gurmeg from a Hyundai Creta, he said.
Another vehicle was stopped and nearly Rs 25 lakh was recovered from a person Pankaj and Rs 50.30 lakh were recovered from another person Arun along with a few signed and unsigned chequebooks, said DCP (Northeast) A K Singla.
"The notes were in the denominations of Rs 500, 2,000 and 100. The persons carrying the currency were detained as model code of conduct is in place owing to the upcoming MCD elections," he said.
