Hailing AAP's landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, Loksatta Party chief Jayprakash Narayan today said the verdict reflects people's aspiration for establishing a new "political culture" in the country.
Praising AAP for its massive victory, Narayan said the mandate of voters reflect their desire for a political culture that emphasises on development, jobs and local governance.
The leader, however, said the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has not yet emerged as the true representative of "new politics" and that they still need to move away from 'old politics' such as promise of freebies and irresponsible assurances and provocative speeches.
He said issues in AAP's agenda like eradicating corruption, role of money and liquor in elections, people welfare, and local governance are in the right direction.
Maintaining that it was an error of strategy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to focus on Delhi elections, the bureaucrat-turned-politician said, "Modi was elected at the national level and should not try for "monopoly" by appearing everywhere in states, cities for elections."
Modi and BJP should stick to their national agenda and take up the new political culture and empowerment of local governments at least after the Delhi Assembly polls, he said.
On Congress that faced humiliation for not even able to win a single seat, Narayan said the party should realise that "hereditary, business-type and money bags" way have no place in "mature politics".
"The time has come for a new citizen-centric, liberal and matured politics. Loksatta would play a key role in achieving this goal. The important points of the new politics are providing opportunities for growth to all, quality education, health, corruption-free services in government offices, local governance, and creation of jobs," he said.
