Before this year's assembly election, highest voter turnout was recorded in 1993 polls when 61.75 per cent voters exercised their franchise. This percentage was followed by the lowest turnout in 1998 with a meagre 48.99 per cent.
In 2003 and 2008 Assembly polls, 53.42 per cent and 57.58 per cent voting turnout were recorded respectively.
Likewise, during Lok Sabha polls between 1991 and 2009, the overall voting percentage hovered between 43.54 per cent (1999) and 52.3 per cent (2009).
Delhi's Chief electoral Officer Vijay Dev, however, appreciated the record turnout and applauded Delhi residents, especially youths for "breaking many stereotypes and coming out in large numbers to vote in the poll."
"It was the high turnout breaking all previous record," Dev said.
