"Any institution to be counted among country's reputed institutions, has to pass through some tests and despite all odds DU has stood the test of time," Singh said in his last convocation address as DU VC.
Singh has been the most controversial Vice Chancellor in DU's history and his tenure is coming to end in October this year.
From introducing the controversial Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) to being issued show-cause notice by the HRD Ministry, the varsity had hit headlines for numerous reasons in the past one year.
AIIMS Director M C Mishra was the Chief Guest at the convocation where 702 students were awarded Ph.D degrees and 173 students were awarded medals for excellence in their respective subjects.
Mishra asked the students to maintain a balance between studies and healthy lifestyle for a bright future.
"It is important to have clarity of mindset and tremendous potential to make it big in life, but it is also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle," he said.
"I advice the students to make small beginnings by saying no to tobacco and wearing helmets," he added.
Meanwhile, a Hindu College associate professor boycotted the convocation ceremony where he was scheduled to receive his Ph.D degree.
Ratan Lal had earlier this week written to the VC, saying that the university has failed to act against the college administration with regard to cases of irregularities raised by him and others in the past and hence he would be boycotting the convocation.
Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) also staged a protest outside Hindu College in support of Ratan Lal, while the convocation ceremony was underway.
