Delhi University to have hostel for NE students

The Centre has agreed in principle to construct a hostel for students from north-eastern states at the north campus of Delhi University, Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh Takam Sanjoy said today.
"The hostel to be constructed in addition to the existing ones, is the outcome of the constant demands by various Delhi-based NE students' bodies besides Delhi University Students' Union," Sanjoy said in a statement today.
Sanjoy, attended the AICC meeting yesterday at New Delhi convened by Union Minister Oscar Fernandes and AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik.
It was resolved to expedite the matter and the Delhi CM has assured to extend all cooperation in allotment of land and other official formalities, Sanjoy said.
DoNER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatawar will address another meeting today as a follow up to give a concrete shape to the hostel proposal.
Sanjoy, who is also the convener of All India Tribal MPs' Forum, also informed that the security for NE people in Delhi, particularly women section was on the top most priority of the parliamentarians and the Forum of Tribal Officers in Delhi.
"With our coordinated approach, the Union Home Ministry directed to appoint tough cop from Arunachal, Robin Hibu, as coordinator for security and safety of NE people in Delhi," the statement added.
