A Delhi court Monday declared one of the persons, arrested in connection with the recent communal violence in northeast Delhi last month, as a juvenile and remanded his case to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
Metropolitan Magistrate Anubhav Jain directed the concerned jail superintendent and the investigating officer to produce the juvenile before the JJB on March 17.
The juvenile was arrested on February 26 and was sent to judicial custody in the case.
During the hearing, advocate Abdul Gaffar, appearing for the juvenile, placed his school leaving certificate as per which he was below 18 years old during the commission of the offence.
He was booked under the sections 147 (rioting), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 307 (attempt to murder), 109 (abetment) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Arms Act.
Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 after violence between citizenship law supporters and protesters spiralled out of control leaving at least 42 people dead and around 200 injured.
Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at residents and police personnel.
