Delhi welcomes 2014 amid tight security

People today thronged popular markets, shopping malls and other hotspots in the capital on New Year's eve here as police kept a tight vigil on roads, restaurants, pubs to ensure that celebrations were incident-free.
City police has made elaborate security and traffic arrangements to ensure that celebrations went off peacefully amid people visiting shops at Connaught Place, the epicentre of celebrations in the city, the India Gate and other popular attractions.
Traffic was not allowed in the inner, middle or the outer circle of the Connaught Place after 7pm.
No private and public transport vehicles were not allowed to proceed towards the CP, Mandi House, Bengali Market, Ranjit Singh flyover, Minto Road, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near New Delhi Railway Station, R K Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Marg, Gole Market, Patel Chowk, K G Marg, Ferozshah Road crossing and Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane from 7pm onwards.
Some other areas of the city, considered as party hotspots like Saket, M-Block Market of Greater Kailash, Chirag Delhi, New Friends Colony, Defence Colony, South Extension, Mehrauli, Aya Nagar Border, Khanpur, Nehru Place near Eros Hotel, near Govindpuri Metro Station, Vasant Vihar among others were under tight vigil.
The Delhi Traffic Police also deployed 70 teams to check drunken driving with alcometres.
Police personnel were posted at all hotels, restaurants, markets and religious places which were drawing people in large numbers.
Owners of pubs have also been asked to immediately alert the police on any trouble-makers.
