India is among dozens of countries where the demand for coworking spaces will grow more than 10,000 in 2016, according to a new survey.
Coworking is the use of an office or other working environment by self-employed or working people for different employers, to share ideas and knowledge.
"The demand for 'Coworking' has climbed in the last twelve months, especially in Canada, Italy, France, Thailand, Australia, and India. A stable upward trajectory can likewise be seen in the US, Brazil, and Spain, along with fluctuations in Mexico and Japan, according to a survey by the website Deskmag, which tracks the trend.
It found 7,800 coworking spaces worldwide as of October 2015, up from 3,400 in 2013 and just 75 in 2007.
According to the survey, the number of coworking spaces will grow to more than 10,000 in 2016, in dozens of counties, with a strong growth trajectory in Canada, Italy, France, Thailand, Australia and India.
62 per cent of all coworking owners this year, reported wanting to expand their spaces, showing a slight increase from the 59 per cent as reported by the 2014 survey results, the survey said.
The emergence of coworking spaces with low-cost memberships has become appealing to new startups as well as individual entrepreneurs, consultants and others who want a flexible but professional work environment.
However, the trend has stagnated in some countries like Poland and Russia where the figures have maintained the same level as three years ago. In Germany and Argentina, it reached the current trend level two years ago; and in the UK, one year ago, the survey said.
The trend has reached its highest point this year in nearly all countries.
Nevertheless, the peak has crested in nearly all recorded countries over the last three months, meaning that never before have so many people searched for 'Coworking' on Google, the survey said.
