"After careful consideration, we have decided to end our 12 year marriage," she said.
The 62-year-old actor and his wife have decided to co-parent their two children after the legal separation.
Calling it a mutual decision the estranged couple said, "We will always remain great friends and devoted partners in raising our children."
Quaid and Kimberly tied knot in July 2004 after which the real estate agent filed for divorce in 2012, claiming that their marriage has become insupportable due to conflict of personalities.
