Head of Kanchi Mutt Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi and the head of Dharmapuram Adheenam Sri Shanmugadesiga Gananasambanda Paramacharya Swamigal presided over the flag hoisting ceremony.
Earlier, special poojas were held for the statue of Goddess Cauvery near the Thula Ghat.
Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark also took part in the poojas at the 'Thula Ghat'.
Clad in a red saree with vermilion on forehead, the 75-year old Princess took part in all the rituals.
