With an aim to meet its target, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation has stepped up awarding contracts for speedy execution of the project in both Eastern and Western corridors.
Contracts worth Rs 9,700 crore being finalised to be awarded by July this year while contracts worth Rs 26,078 crore were finalised during the last two years, said DFCC Managing Director Aadesh Sharma said here today.
The Rs 91,459 crore project envisages the construction of total 3342 km long track for the exclusive movement of freight in a faster and environment-friendly way.
The first section of 56 km long track between Durgawati and Sasaram is expected to be operational for regular freight operation in July after getting Commissioner Railway Safety clearances.
"The 56 km line was commissioned in May this year after trial run. But regular freight operation will resume by July after getting CRS clearances," he said.
Sharma further said the work on DFC is on the track and currently civil work is progressing in 2138 km while signalling and electrical work is going on at 1,786 km route.
Work is going on full speed to make DFC fully commissioned by December 2019, Sharma added.
The Eastern corridor with a route length of 1,840 km connects Ludhiana with Dankuni the Western corridor comprising 1,502 km line starts from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to Dadri.
DFCC has acquired about 9,000 hectares of land out of the total 11,006 hectares of the land required for construction of the track.
"We have acquitted 90 per cent of the total land required for the project and in the process of acquiring remaining 10 per cent of land as these are involved court cases so it is taking time," he said.
DFCC has deployed modern equipment to lay the tracks and currently laying 2.5 km long track daily. We will increase from 2.5 km per day to 3 km long track per day shortly, Sharma said.
DFC envisages carrying 13,000 tons with average speed of 75 km per hour as compared to the present load capacity of 5,000 tons with the average speed of 25 km per hour.
