The National award-winning actor took to Twitter to make the announcement, saying his Wunderbar Films will produce the sequel starring Rajinikanth, also Dhanush's father-in-law.
"Kabali" director Pa.Ranjith will be directing the sequel as well.
Dhanush posted a short audio-visual message on his Twitter handle and indicated that the film could go on floors after Rajinikanth's next, Shankar directed "2.0," a sequel to their earlier sci-fi, "Enthiran." (Robot).
The multi-crore "Kabali", revolving around an ageing don in search of his wife and also seeking revenge, was produced by S Thanu and had hit the screens last month amidst huge expectations from fans and the cinema industry alike.
"My sincere thanks to all the fans, friends, media, press, (and) well wishers for all their wishes and blessings for the biggest announcement I ever made," he tweeted.
