Dhruthi, Riya enter second round

Two Indians Dhruthi Venugopal and Riya Bhatia, along with South Korea's Pei-Chi Lee made it to the second round of the singles at the USD 25,000 Endurance Aurangabad Open Women's ITF Tennis Championships which got underway at the EMMTC tennis courts here today.
In the three singles matches played today, Commonwealth Youth Games gold medalist and wild card Dhruthi scored a hard-fought win against former national champion Sai Samhitha Chamarthi 3-6 6-3 6-3 to enter the second round.
Qualifier Riya Bhatia continued with her good form to regsiter a 7-6(2) 6-1 win over former junior national champion Sri Vaishnavi Peddi Reddy, while South Korean Pei-Chi Lee outplayed qualifier Sneha Padmata 6-4 6-0 to make the round of 16.
In an upset in the doubles, birthday girl Ankita Raina teamed up with Miki Miyamura to make it to the quarter finals.
The Indo-Japanese pair led 6-2 5-0 before the fourth- seeded pair of Prarthana G Thombare and Nungnadda Wannasuk of Thailand retired.
Scratch pair of Natasha Palha and Dhruthi Venugopal squandered a match point as they went down fighting against top seeds Melis Sezer and Ekaterina Yashina who won 3-6 6-3 14-12.
