Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has launched a mobile application for cargo operations that will help reduce paper work and track movement of shipments on real time basis.
DIAL, which runs the international airport in the national capital, said the mobile application would aid in electronic clearance of cargo through the customs department.
In a release today, DIAL said the application provides authorised access to operators, customs, custom house agents, airlines and freight forwarders, among others. This would enable greater visibility for cargo operations and tangible cost and resource benefits, it noted.
The application 'DIAL Cargo' is already operational.
"DIAL Cargo app will benefit the entire Air Trade System where you can transact complete business functionalities such as tracking consignment, paying terminal charges, issuing delivery and carting orders and many such items in a paperless manner," DIAL CEO I Prabhakara Rao said.
DIAL in conjunction with the air cargo industry has launched a business friendly and comprehensive mobile application that can also integrate the messages received from Customs Electronic Data Interchange System and the Directorate General Systems and Data Management, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) was quoted as saying in the release.
"This will reduce the paper work, dwell time and help customs brokers to transact their respective business functionalities through mobile," it added.
With this application, customers can now transact air cargo business on real time basis even while they are mobile, according to Delhi Customs Clearing Agents Association President P S Atree.
Delhi airport handled 700,000 MTs of cargo in 2014-15.
