DMK chief M Karunanidhi today said senior party leader T R Baalu has written to the JPC chairman contending there are a lot of differences between the conclusions of the its draft report on the 2G spectrum issue and the documents from the department.
"There are a lot of differences between the conclusions of the JPC draft report and the documents from the department. So, he (Baalu) has said he was forced to send those documents to all JPC members and had sent copies of those important documents," Karunanidhi told reporters here.
Baalu also said that despite repeated requests to the JPC Chairman to check with committee members on their availability for its meetings, they have been "ignored" and today's meeting has been arranged, Karunanidhi said.
The government today managed to have its way in the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 2G scam when the panel approved the draft report giving a clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram with a 16-11 vote in its favour.
Outside allies BSP (2) and SP (one) voted with 14 others of the ruling coalition to approve the report that accused former Telecom Minister A Raja of "misleading" the Prime Minister and "belying" the assurances given to him.
To queries on his opinion on the Centre's proposed ordinance, over the Supreme Court's judgement on convicted MPs and MLAs, Karunanidhi said "it is a legal issue. So, I don't want to discuss whether it is right or wrong."
On speculations that BJP might join hands with either DMK or AIADMK since Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has not hit out at either of the parties at a public meeting yesterday, he said "we have not taken any stand on that. Even if we take it, we would not like to announce it now."
On reports that a Sri Lankan court had said it would nationalise all captured boats from arrested Indian fishermen in the neighbouring island, he said "I don't want to answer this without knowing details of this judgement.
