Dist admin orders sealing of nine hotels

The district administration has ordered sealing of nine medium-scale hotels here for alleged non-compliance of fire safety measures.
The hotels have been served a notice with a deadline of 24 hours to vacate their premises after which they will be sealed, Kanpur District Magistrate Roshan Jacob said in a statement.
Around one week ago, the city's fire department had raided several hotels here, and fire safety measures at nine of them were not found in compliance with the norms, Jacob said.
The district magistrate then served a notice to the hotels demanding clarification in a stipulated time, failing which the nine hotels have been served the notice to vacate.

The properties will be sealed under the Uttar Pradesh Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Act, he said.
