The pumping station, having a capacity of 53.5 million gallons per day (MGD), would benefit the colonies on both the sides of Vikas Marg in east Delhi, DJB today said.
The civic body also said that it recently commissioned a 7.5 km-long sewage line, of 1,200 mm diameter, connecting the Preet Vihar sewage pumping station (SPS) to the Kondli sewage treatment plant (STP).
Before commissioning of this main line, sewage over-flow from the area was going into the Shahdara drain, it said and added that the line "will reduce pollution in this drain and consequent pollution in the river Yamuna".
"The problem of sewage overflow and surcharge of sewer line has been redressed considerably in these areas. The project will lead to improvement in sanitary conditions of the area and bring immense convenience to citizens.
"The newly-commissioned line will carry sewage generated from these areas to Kondli STP whose utilisation will improve considerably," it said.
