DMK alleges violation of EC's Model Code by officials

DMK today submitted a memoramdum to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct by senior officials of Salem district, including the Collector and Sub-Collector.
Assembly bypoll is scheduled for Yercaud (SC) constituency in Salem district on December 4.
The memorandum alleged that the District Collector had laid the foundation stone for the construction of Omalur Taluk Office building at a cost of Rs 2.52 crore, in the presence of Salem DRO Selvaraj, Sub-Collector Anish Sekar, Omalur Tasildhar Azhagiri, Block Development Officer Malligeswari and Asst. Engineer, Public Works (Construction) Mohana.
"It is pertinent to note that the construction of Omalur Taluk Office Building was sanctioned long back and the tender was also finalised, but keeping the bypoll in mind, the District Collector had wantonly acted in favour of the ruling AIADMK Government and fixed the foundation stone laying function after the announcement of election," the memorandum alleged.

Right from the commencement of the Model Code of Conduct, the district administration was violating the Model Code and Election Rules and they were also continuously making their representations pointing out the violations, the DMK memorandum alleged.
