DMK protest fast against 'non-recruitment' of locals by KNPP

DMK today staged a one-day fast protesting against the authorities of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) near here over alleged denial of job opportunities to locals in the plant.

Besides DMK workers, a large number of locals, including women and DMK functionaries, participated in the protest presided over by former MLA M Appavu at Kudankulam village.

Addressing the protesters, Appavu alleged that KNPP authorities had recruited 500 people from outside the region for the ongoing construction work of the third and fourth units of the Indo-Russian joint venture project.

The authorities did not provide jobs to the kins of those who had given up their land for the project, he charged.

Also alleging that money played a role in the recruitments, he demanded a CBI probe.

The KNPP at present has two commissioned units each with a capacity to produce 1000 MW.
