Talking to reporters here, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B S Gnanadesikan said, "It is for every party to decide to form and not to form an alliance with another party. I cannot comment on that. But, the reasons given by him (Karunanidhi) for the decision is regrettable."
"He has said as if the Congress was responsible for the arrest of MPs A Raja and Kanimozhi (in the 2G case). This is not right. Congress has nothing to do with that," he said.
Speaking to reporters at the airport here, Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy said, "It is DMK's decision. I cannot comment on another political party's decision."
Asked about the 2G case as alleged by the DMK patriarch, he said, "I cannot comment on the 2G issue, since the case is in the court."
To a query on forming alliances with parties in the state for the general polls, he said, "Our Tamil Nadu unit will talk to political parties here and consult the party leadership in forming an alliance to face the general elections next year."
Karunanidhi made the announcement in his concluding remarks at the meeting of the party's key decision-making body, General Council, to rapturous applause from the members, which indicated the anti-Congress mood in the party ranks.
