The DMK today sought in the Madras High Court a copy of the CBI's report in the sensational seizure of Rs 570 crore in cash in the run up to the 2016 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Senior counsel P Wilson, appearing on behalf of DMK MP T K S Elangovan, who filed a petition in the matter, made a special mention before Justice R Subbaiah, seeking copy of the report submitted in a sealed cover to the court earlier.

"Being petitioners in the case, we are entitled to know the outcome of the investigation," he said.

In his PIL, Elangovan had alleged that the cash, seized by election officials from three trucks near Tirupur in the state on May 13, 2016, was hawala money involving two states and sought a CBI probe into the matter.

Later, the State Bank of India claimed that the money belonged to it and was being transported from one currency chest to another.

Alleging a conspiracy in the movement of the cash, Elangovan had sought a CBI probe, which was allowed by Justice Subbaiah in July 2016.

The judge had ordered the CBI to conduct a preliminary probe expeditiously in accordance with law and register a case and investigate the matter if cognisable offence was made out.
