With Assembly elections declared in Tamil Nadu, DMK today sought transfer of Collectors, state Intelligence Chief and police officers, alleging that ruling partymen may connive with such officials to orchestrate malpractices.
Police inspectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Assistant Commissioners, Collectors posted on or after January 1, functioning in the constituencies of AIADMK Ministers should be transferred, DMK Organisation Secretary R S Bharathi said in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi.
Stating that the officials functioning in districts were handpicked by AIADMK partymen, he said, "Either the same (AIADMK) Minister or their nominees are said to be contesting from the constituencies (for the polls) and hence for a peaceful poll, their (the officials) transfer is paramount".
"Often most mistakes and malpractices happen in connivance at these levels and the right choice of officers is critical for free, fair and peaceful conduct of an election," he said.
"DMK requests your good offices, to immediately shift them (the officials) out of the district and execute inter-zone transfer, wherever possible and where it was not possible to take officers out of election work," he said.
"The party requests the transfer of State Intelligence Chief N Sathiyamurthy and Home Secretary Apurva Verma as both these officials were very close to the ruling government and act like AIADMK party persons," he said.
DMK also sought the transfer of School Education Secretary Sabitha to any other post not related to election process as "she was directly aiding AIADMK party", he said.
