DMK welcomes govt decision to pay cash instead of free rice

Opposition DMK today lauded the decision of the Puducherry government to remit Rs 300 instead of giving 10 kg free rice every month in the name of the wife or senior woman member in the family in their bank accounts.
Convenor of the DMK' s Puducherry unit M A S Subramanian said a resolution adopted at the party's workers meeting here today welcomed the government's decision and it was on line with the request the DMK had forwarded to the government some days ago.
This suggestion had found response from the government and the DMK was thankful to the administration, the resolution released to media by the DMK convenor today pointed out.
The meeting also wanted rise in quota of reservation from two per cent to five percent for candidates of fishermen families in education and employment sectors, immediate implementation of Right to Education Act, utilisation of funds sanctioned under Special Component Plan for the Scheduled castes exclusively for the targeted sections and disbursement of wages for workers of the government undertakings.
