In response to a query by Justice Rajiv Shakdher, the counsel for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the international-standard prosthetic limbs with silicon padding would be made available to the mishap victim.
Mehjabeen, a journalism student, had met an accident on March 26, 2010 at Rajiv Chowk metro station as she fell on the tracks after being accidentally pushed by a man, running on the platform. Later, her both legs had to be amputated.
The victim along with her mother was waiting to board a train.
DMRC, meanwhile, told the court that it provides three per cent reservation to disabled candidates in jobs and may consider employing the victim if vacancies arise in future.
The Indian Railways, which is also a party to the case, sought time to respond to the submission that it may also consider employing the victim. The court then posted the matter for hearing on February 13.
Mehjabeen had moved the court in 2010 seeking direction for provision of safety to general public at metro stations including that for ensuring availability of ambulance service at each busy station and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for her loss. She had also sought a government job for herself.
An NGO had provided her artificial legs enabling her to walk properly seven months after the incident, she said in the plea adding that neither DMRC nor the Centre, however, gave her any job to be self-reliant.
Earlier, DMRC had offered Rs four lakh compensation to her after the mishap, the victim's petition said.
