With many private schools adopting arbitrary admission criteria for nursery classes including negative points for non-vegetarian and smoker parents, the Directorate of Education (DoE) today asked schools to correct and modify the benchmarks.
DoE in a circular said that it has analysed criteria of schools and noticed that some schools have also included criteria against the spirit of the Right to Equality as enshrined in the Constitution.
"Some schools have adopted criteria like management quota, vegetarian, non-alcoholic, non-smoker, written test, oral communication skill, interview, educational qualification of parents, marks in previous class etc.
"These criteria are contrary not only to the principles mentioned above but also against the spirit of Right to Equality as enshrined in the Constitution. Also no management quota marks be allotted for the seats," the department said.
DoE has asked schools to develop and adopt clear, well defined, equitable, non-discriminatory, unambiguous and transparent criteria for nursery admissions.
"All the un-aided private recognised schools in Delhi are advised to correct and modify their admission criteria if it is not in line with above said principles," it said.
