Logan Stoffle, 24, a transient, is wanted for allegedly breaking into the county Animal Services Center in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday night.
Sid, a black and brown pit bull mix, was scheduled to be euthanised on Wednesday at the order of a county judge after the dog bit two people, sending both to the hospital.
A worker at the kennel discovered that Sid was missing Wednesday morning and called the sheriff's office.
He's known to frequent the Atascadero area, Los Angeles Times quoted authorities as saying.
Anyone with information about the dog and its owner is asked to call the sheriff's office, the report said.
