The nomination of Trinamool Congress's top trade union leader Dola Sen, who is the only candidate in fray for the March 20 by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal, was found valid today after scrutiny.
Buddheswar Mohanti, the secretary to the state Assembly, who is the returning officer told PTI that nomination of Sen who was the lone candidate to file nomination for the vacant seat was found valid on the day of scrutiny today.
March 13 is the date of withdrawal.
TMC nominated Sen, vice chairperson of West Bengal's Women Commission, to the seat on March 4 after party supremo Mamata Banerjee approved the screening committee's proposal in this regard.
Sen had last year lost the Asansol Lok Sabha seat to Union minister Babul Supriyo by a margin of over 70,000 votes.
Since then she has been concentrating on her organisational role as a trade union leader.
The election has been necessitated by the resignation of TMC sitting MP Srinjoy Bose on February 5 in the aftermath of the Saradha chit fund scam.
The new Rajya Sabha incumbent will fill in for Bose's remaining Rajya Sabha tenure, which runs till August 18, 2017.
Sen was on March 4 made the national president INTTUC, TMC's labour wing. She had been removed as the state president of the Trinamool trade union in November.
