AAP today claimed to have received donations of Rs 81 lakh yesterday from a record 2798 donors notwithstanding a severe attack on the party by the BJP following the controversy over alleged dubious funding.
The party also claimed that it received around Rs 70 lakh till 7 PM today which may further rise as donations continue to pour in.
The highest single day collection of Rs 90 lakh was recorded on January 15, the day Kiran Bedi joined BJP, the party said, adding the number of 2798 donors who donated yesterday was also the highest for a single day.
The average donations received since November 1 has been around Rs 30 lakh.
According to the party's online database, since November 1, 2014, it has received Rs 16,63,16,821 from 42,391 donors spanning across 70 countries, 72 per cent of which was from India.
"Take for example on February 2, the day the controversy broke out, we received around Rs 36.70 lakh in donation and that figure can be said to be the average," a party functionary said.
Interestingly, according to him, AAP has seen a similar surge in its donations even in the past when such controversies hit the party.
"Whenever such controversy erupts when people raise questions on the fundings of our party, we see a surge in our donations," he said.
