The DONER Ministry has launched Rs 200 crore projects for Assam in accordance with the state government's priority on water supply and road development.
"We are going to spend this amount in projects primarily on the preference of the state government so that there is no reason to complaint," Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for DONER Jitendra Singh told reporters here today.
The state government has been asked to give priority to the projects and it has accordingly accorded it to water supply and road development projects, he added.
Another major initiative taken by the DONER ministry is the Rs 125 crore organic farming for North Eastern states, including Assam for which the process has been initiated.
"This new mission, based on Gujarat's Anand Model which has earned worldwide fame, may take some time to take off the ground but we are planning to begin with a focus on fruit production and large cardamom," Singh said.
This organic mission is not only a major initiative but will also "symbolise the first major step towards Make in North East model which will finally merge with Prime Minister's Make in India Policy, besides also being a part of the government's Act East Policy," the Minister said.
Discussions have been held with businessmen, industry stakeholders and also with industry ministers of neighbouring countries to ensure better market in the adjoining countries.
"Products made here will have immediate takers in the neighbourhood though it is not necessary that it will be exported here alone but more markets will be explored and an integrated marketing policy will be put into place when the project takes off the ground," Singh said.
