A DRDO employee lost one of his legs and was critical after he allegedly attempted suicide by jumping before a Delhi Metro train in the city here this afternoon, police said.
According to police, Rajiv Kumar, who works with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), jumped on the tracks at Udyog Bhawan Metro station as a train bound for Jahangirpuri entered the station.
The incident took place at 12.23 PM and a PCR van rushed him to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
"Doctors had to amputate one of his legs and his condition is said to be critical. No suicide note was found on him. His wife told us that he was under some sort of depression and used to remain aloof," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia.
Kumar, who is in his early 30s, sustained grievous injuries on his neck and head as well.
Metro services on the Yellow Line were interrupted between 12.24 p.M. And 12.37 p.M., causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
According to a metro spokesperson, services were stopped for 5-7 minutes following the incident that naturally affected the overall operations.
"The railing height of several overground stations in the Blue line was increased after a spate of suicides in the past. The staff is also regularly sensitised to monitor passenger behavior.
