In its drive against use of plastic bags, Gurgaon district administration will launch a crackdown on its users, manufacturers, stockists, transporters and distributors.
"A comprehensive action plan has been prepared to implement the plan," Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi said.
Plastic carry bags are hazardous for environment and even become cause of death of stray cattle which usually eat them, the Deputy Commissioner said.
He appealed to the people of Gurgaon district to shun plastic carry bags in public interest.
"People should carry bags, made of cloth or jute, while going for buying vegetables or other items from the market," he said.
Vidyarthi said that initially the people and shopkeepers will be educated to stop use of polythene bags or plastic carry bags on their own and after a week or ten days, 'challans' will be issued to those found using such bags which are banned in the state.
He said that in the drive against plastic carry bags, first, the manufacturers and stockists would be nabbed and 'challaned'.
There is a provision of a fine of Rs 500 to 25,000 for the person found using, distributing, selling or stocking the plastic carry bags.
The Haryana government had imposed prohibitions on the manufacturing, sale, distribution, stocking, transportation and use of virgin and recycled plastic carry bags and recycled plastic containers.
