A week after a controversy triggered on the alleged conduct of Onam 'sadya' (feast) in an operation theatre at the government Medical College Hospital in Thriruvananthapuram, some private ambulance drivers burnt crackers in front of the casualty wing of a taluk as part of Onam revelry, police said.
The District Medical Officer and Superintendent of the hospital today sought an explanation from the doctor on duty regarding the incident at Kayamkulam in the district as it kicked up a row.
Drivers of some private ambulances burnt the crackers along with their friends before the casualty wing last night throwing patients and bystanders into a tizzy, they said.
Some of the scared bystanders and children even cried aloud when the crackers went off unexpectedly, they said.
Earlier, a nurse had been transferred and a doctor slapped with a showcause notice after the alleged conduct of 'onam sadya' at the operation theatre in the government Medical College Hospital in state capital as part of the Onam celebration on August 22.
Bsides serving feast, a floral carpet was also laid in the operation theatre to greet the staff, including doctors, as part of the celebrations on that day.
