Troubled musician Pete Doherty is desperate to quit drugs after realising they have wrecked his rock career.
The 35-year-old Brit and his The Libertines bandmate Carl Barat were touted as rock's great new writers when they hit the music scene in 2002 with their debut album Up the Bracket, reported Contactmusic.
Despite gaining a cult following among fans, the band split in 2004, and Doherty's talents have since been overshadowed by his addiction issues and shambolic performances.
"I would like to get rid of the damn drugs. It's no longer fun. On the contrary, it's just kills all my creativity. But it's difficult to stop. My past life is a mess, a real mess.
"It's gone wrong in so many ways. Although I don't believe in regrets - 'cause that offers nothing - but clearly some things I would like to change. I wish I had better contact with my family," he said.
Doherty will reunited with Barat when The Libertines play the British Summer Time Hyde Park event in London on July 5, marking their first performance together in four years.
